YOUR LITTLE CORNER OF THE INTERNET
Small friends. Good questions.
Which products include AI Chat?
AI Chat, Word Wizard and Learning Companion are exclusive to premium products. Free products include the core companion experience. Look for the Premium AI Chat badge. Connect your own Gemini API key to start chatting.
What can my companion do?
Desktop Companions brings animated characters, premium-only BYOK AI Chat, study modes, reminders, countdowns, saved sprints, daily goals and gentle breaks to your desktop. Optional alerts and Quiet mode let you choose how much it joins in.
Does it work on Windows and Mac?
Yes. Each product includes both Windows and macOS versions with the same features. When downloading, simply choose the version for your computer.
What is BYOK?
Bring Your Own Key. Enter your own Gemini API key in Character settings to enable AI replies.
Can I use it without an API key?
Yes. Enjoy your companion’s animations and local goals, countdowns, reminders and gentle breaks without AI. Chat requires an internet connection and a key.
What are the three chat modes?
Free Chat is for conversation and ideas. Word Wizard helps with vocabulary and in-chat tests. Learning Companion helps you practise from attached study material with questions and feedback.
What happens to attachments?
Images, PDFs and supported text files are sent to Gemini when you send the message. Local history stores the conversation and filename, not the original file. Reattach a file after restarting if you need its contents again.
Are AI conversations private or offline?
History is saved locally, but messages and attachments used for AI replies are sent to Gemini and governed by the provider’s policies. Do not share material you do not want processed by your AI provider.
Can it answer live questions?
Your companion answers using the knowledge of the connected AI model, which may not include recent events. For up-to-date topics such as news or weather, Free Chat can offer an “Open live results” button that opens web results in your browser, helping you check current sources instead of relying on an outdated answer.
Does it wake my computer for reminders?
No. Keep the companion running for reminders. It does not wake a sleeping computer. Word Wizard’s test cadence is an in-chat indicator.
Does every character dance or react?
Special reactions, music dance, sounds and event stickers depend on the chosen character’s animation assets. Desktop and media awareness also depend on supported apps and OS permissions.
Can I make it quieter?
Yes. Use Character settings to control sound and alert categories, or enable Quiet mode for fewer interruptions.
Where are my downloads?
Your download links are available after checkout and in your order email. Choose Windows or macOS when you download.
